The Growing Importance of Voice in the New World
November 1, 2007
This panel discusses how voice is becoming a critical element in navigating applications, speech to text capabilities, and voice input methods. In the past six months we have seen a dramatic increase in interest for free directory assistance, including offerings by AT&T, Verizon, and even Google. New and innovative companies are being formed which are capitalizing on this demand such as voicemail-to-text transcription services; and mobile access to email, contacts, calendar, and other content using plain speech. This has become a fertile landscape as large companies such as Microsoft recognize the value in speech technology as an interface for accessing information and services with its $800 million acquisition of Tellme Networks. The panel will identify the various ways that voice will become an important part of our everyday lives, the business models, and the cutting-edge technologies which are emerging.
