New ESG Report Validates that Acopia Switches Perform Data Migrations Online Between Heterogeneous Multi-Protocol NAS Systems

February 17, 2006

Lowell, MA - February 17, 2006 - Acopia Networks®, the innovator of Adaptive Resource Networking, today announced the availability of a report that validates the unique capabilities of its ARX® products to transparently migrate data between heterogeneous multi-protocol file servers without client disruption. Published by the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), the report cites tests demonstrating the ARX switches' capability to transparently move data and perform valuable ILM functions between Network Appliance and EMC Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems.

"Storage growth and the normal cycle of hardware and software upgrades has created an ongoing need to move data and consolidate storage devices", said Tony Asaro, Senior Analyst for the Enterprise Strategy Group. "However, most customers find traditional data migration to be a very complex and disruptive process. This ESG lab report validates that the Acopia ARX has the ability to automate and simplify the data migration process, even in the most complex multi-protocol, heterogeneous storage environments."

The validation report, available today, staged a real world scenario of using an Acopia ARX switch to virtualize multi-vendor NAS systems (Network Appliance and EMC) and to perform transparent data migration from EMC to Network Appliance systems while preserving access for both Windows and Unix clients. The test also verified Acopia's intelligent handling of the real world complexities of migration such as open file migration, incompatibilities between NetApp and EMC and graceful decommissioning of source file systems. In addition, the testing also included validation of Acopia's ILM policy for tiered storage and clustered high-availability failover capability.

"This report further validates the unique capability of the Acopia products to help customers with complex and disruptive data migration and ILM projects" said Brendon Howe, VP of Marketing at Acopia. "We are seeing a tremendous demand for our virtualization products to address these major migration challenges. It's an issue in almost every IT organization with a significant file storage infrastructure."

Acopia is the pioneer of file virtualization products that dramatically simplify the management of NAS resources, providing improved utilization, non-disruptive data migration and increased performance for enterprise file storage environments. Acopia's customer's today include a growing list of Fortune 500 companies such as Merrill Lynch, Toshiba, Goldman Sachs, Warner Music Group and Yahoo!.

The data migration report, Acopia ARX Transparent, Heterogeneous Data Migrations for NAS, is available online at both Acopia (www.acopia.com) and ESG's (www.enterprisestrategygroup.com) websites.
